πŸ›οΈ Our Identity & Purpose

Who We Are

Amity Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established to advance education, relieve hardship and help people participate more fully in community life.

We give particular consideration to the needs of the Turkish-speaking community, while our charitable purposes extend beyond any single community. Our aim is to support people of different ages and backgrounds in England, helping them access learning opportunities, develop their abilities and improve their quality of life.

Education is central to our purpose. We aim to support children and young people in their learning, both at school and beyond the classroom, and to advance education for people of all ages. Our founding objectives provide for weekend schools, homework clubs and outdoor activities, alongside the establishment and maintenance of educational institutions and cultural learning spaces, including museums and art galleries.

We also aim to help people facing social and economic disadvantage develop the skills and confidence to identify their needs, contribute to meeting them and take a more active role in society. Activities supporting these aims may include practical learning groups, skills workshops and opportunities for community participation.

Our commitment to social welfare includes relieving financial hardship and improving conditions for people who need support because of their age, ill health, disability or circumstances. Depending on identified needs and available resources, this may involve financial assistance, essential goods or help accessing services and facilities.

Equality and diversity are integral to our charitable purposes. We aim to challenge discrimination based on race, religion, disability or ethnic origin, and to encourage a better understanding of people’s backgrounds, experiences and needs. Our objectives also include mediation and conciliation to help resolve disputes and support peaceful relationships between individuals, organisations and communities.

Cooperation forms part of this approach. Our governing document allows us to work with other charities, voluntary organisations and public bodies, sharing information and developing initiatives that further our charitable aims.

Our income and assets must be used solely to advance these purposes, rather than distributed to members as profit. This principle keeps public benefit at the heart of our organisation.

Through education, practical support and greater understanding, Amity aims to help people play a fuller part in their own lives and in the communities they belong to.
